You may be well into your summer schedule of sitting poolside and enjoying weekend barbeques. If you’re like a lot of people, the summer heat may be affecting your skin in ways you’d prefer it didn’t. It doesn’t take much to be able to flaunt soft, smooth, radiant skin. If you’re in the Austin area, all you need to do is contact us! Here at the MedSpa of Austin, we offer a wide variety of services, many of them perfectly suited to your summer skin. Microneedling is one that offers multiple benefits at once.
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a minimally-invasive treatment that is performed to induce profound collagen production. Collagen is the substance in the skin that is activated to heal wounds. This is because it stimulates cellular regeneration. When we use our automated microneedling device on your skin, hundreds of micro-injuries are created. While these tiny punctures close up right away, your body perceives injury and it responds by sending an infusion of collagen to the area. The activation of collagen and elastin that occurs after microneedling results in firmer, smoother, younger-looking skin.
Is Summer a Good Time for Microneedling?
Some skin rejuvenation treatments are better suited for fall, winter, and spring. Not microneedling! This treatment is ideal all throughout the year. Because it is so gentle, you can schedule microneedling about every six weeks to keep your skin in prime condition. Usually, after a series of four to six treatments, maintenance can take place a few times a year. Having microneedling during the summer months can help offset the effects of frequent sunscreen use, sun damage, breakouts, and more. Treatment boosts the appearance of your skin, so you can feel more confident in your appearance while your skin is on full display.
If you are interested in scheduling your microneedling treatments this summer, keep in mind that each treatment can make your skin more susceptible and sensitive to sunlight. It may get red and irritated quickly if you spend a day outdoors without proper protection from broad-spectrum SPF and a wide-brimmed hat. After having microneedling treatment, we suggest avoiding sun exposure between noon and 4 p.m. Also, maintain optimal moisture by applying appropriate daytime moisturizer and nighttime creams or serums. Our team can help you determine which products can best support your skin long after your microneedling treatments.
