WHAT IS AN AUSTIN BBL PHOTOFACIAL
Broadband light (BBL) and intense Pulsed Light (IPL) are forms of photorejuvenation which use a high intensity light. For our patients of photofacials in Austin, an Austin BBL Photofacial is used to treat many skin conditions including rosacea, acne, sun damage, pigmented lesions and other skin discoloration issues.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BBL AND IPL
IPL Photofacials have been a valued tool in aesthetics to even out skin tone for over a decade, while the BBL is its new and improved big sister! Both were invented by Dr. Patrick Bitter, a pioneer in photo rejuvenation.
At our Austin Medspa, we use the Sciton BBL device on the Sciton Joule platform. Sciton is one of the most trusted names in laser devices and the Sciton Joule is at the top of this technology. All of our Advanced Aesthetics providers are thoroughly trained on this device (Kristin by Dr. Patrick Bitter himself!). The BBL supports personalized settings which consist of specific light pulse parameters (number of pulses, pulse deviation, pulse delay) and light energy (fluency) for a truly unique skin care treatment.
HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT AUSTIN BBL PHOTOFACIAL TREATMENT SETTINGS ARE BEST FOR MY SKIN?
A complete medical history with accurate skin typing of the patient will produce optimal results while avoiding any adverse reactions. Our technicians take skin typing very seriously, and safety it the top priority!
HOW DOES AN AUSTIN BBL PHOTOFACIAL TREATMENT WORK?
Our Austin Texas Photofacial utilizes BBL Broadband Light for a gentle treatment that is safe, painless, and requires no significant recovery time. BBL delivers light through a handpiece into the skin to target the issue at hand, whether it is uneven skin tone, capillaries or even rosacea.
The device is able to be selective because the light it emits is only absorbed by brown or red colored tissue. The uncolored tissue next to target lesions remains unaffected. The process is gradual and, therefore, more gentle than traditional laser therapies.
AM I A CANDIDATE FOR AUSTIN BBL IPL PHOTOFACIAL
Our Austin Photofacials are very effective at evening out skin tone and pigmentation (specifically brown and red). Our Austin Photofacial treats many skin conditions including:
- Rosacea (should be done monthly for maintenance)
- Age spots (liver spots) Usually require 2-3 treatments.
- Enlarged pores
- Visible blood vessels | Broken capillaries
- Unwanted freckles
- Sun damage
IPL treatments take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the areas being treated. These are best spaced 3 weeks apart if more than one is needed. The treatment process will also cause some collagen production which will help to tighten the skin, shrink pores, and and kill any acne hiding deep in the skin. The result is healthier, younger looking skin.
WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR AUSTIN IPL PHOTOFACIAL
BBL Photofacial treatments are great for patients with mild to moderate pigmentation issues, such as sun damage, freckles, liver spots, redness and rosacea or broken capillaries. If more intense treatments are needed, one of our Medical Aestheticians may recommend a Laser Treatment , Facial or Microneedling.
IS THERE ANYTHING I NEED TO DO BEFORE A BBL PHOTOFACIAL?
If considering a BBL photofacial, it is important to stay out of direct sun 7-10 days before and after treatment. We always recommend using a broad spectrum sun block with an SPF of 30 or more. We love ELTA and sell it at both locations!
CONTRAINDICATIONS OF A BBL PHOTOFACIAL TREATMENT
Those who have recently been tanning (sun or tanning bed) are not candidates for this treatment. Patients who are on strong antibiotics, using Retin-A or bleaching cream, have a history of melanoma or have active skin infections are not candidates for IPL.
WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME OF A BBL PHOTOFACIAL TREATMENT
Although Google would have you beleive that there is no downtime with a BBL photofacial treatment, you will have some redness immediately afterward, and for a few days, as well as any brown spots appearing “peppery” or somewhat darker for a few days before flaking off.
HOW DO I SCHEDULE A BBL PHOTOFACIAL TREATMENT
During your initial consultation, our Advanced Medical Aestheticians will evaluate your unique needs and explain the procedure in detail, so that you will know what to expect from the treatment. After your Austin Photofacial treatment, we will also instruct you on the best techniques to care for your skin to maintain your new healthy look. We prefer Halcyon Skincare.
