You Don’t Have to Stay Married to Marionette Lines

Effects of ageing, frown scowl lines

Marionette lines are named for their location around the mouth. The creases that run from the corners of the mouth to the chin resemble those of the marionette puppet. Some people refer to them as laugh lines, but they are no laughing matter. If you are starting to see these lines, now is a great time to arm yourself with information. We’ll help by discussing some of the ways that marionette lines can be treated. Like many things related to aging, the earlier, the better.

Treating Mild to Moderate Marionette Lines at Home

There are several ways that marionette lines can be treated at home. This starts with practicing excellent sun protection. Beyond that, we look to topical treatments. The key to good topical treatments for marionette lines is getting the right ingredients. Look for:

  • Antioxidants like vitamin C and vitamin E. These fight the oxidative stress associated with premature aging.
  • Vitamin B3 or niacinamide, associated with improved skin elasticity.
  • Hyaluronic acid, which hydrates the skin and also promotes collagen growth.
  • Collagen peptides directly address the degradation of collagen in the skin.
  • Retinoids, which facilitate cellular turnover and new cell growth.

Need More Oomph in your Corrective Care?

Marionette lines can quickly become a problem that feels difficult to manage. Here at the Med Spa Austin, we have several ways to help our clients achieve satisfying cosmetic improvements. Treatment options for marionette lines that have already become prominent include:

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are powerful tools in the fight against aging. Products containing hyaluronic acid restore the foundation beneath lines and creases by binding to water molecules. The fillers that are most popular today are made with techniques that allow the skin to move freely and naturally during facial expressions. In addition to hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, our injectors use Radiesse, a filler made of microspheres that encourage collagen growth.

Botox or Dysport

These two neuromodulators are most well-known for their work against frown lines and other expression lines. A neuromodulator works within targeted muscle tissue. By relaxing an over-tensed muscle, the neuromodulator allows the overlying skin to smooth out. So why would we recommend Botox or Dysport for lines around the mouth? Because marionette lines may be caused by tension of the depressor muscles in the lower face.

Microneedling is performed when we want to induce collagen production in a targeted area, and who doesn’t want or need more collagen! This brief treatment might sound pretty awful. We assure you it’s not. The process of applying tiny needles to the skin using an automated device is quick, effective, and, most importantly, painless. While we use a medical-grade microneedling device that penetrates deeper layers of the skin, we also have the very best numbing medication around. After microneedling, the body delivers an abundance of collagen to the face to rebuild a strong, resilient, smooth surface.

Marionette lines don’t have to get a place on your face. We can help you bid them farewell and have many ways to do that. To learn more, contact us for an appointment in Westlake or Northwest Hills.
