As a premier medical spa in Austin with two comfortable locations, we are discerning about the treatments and technologies that we offer. For a device to be added to our powerful assembly of services, it has to impress us. When it comes to body contouring, the EON device has done just that. As we head into a new year in which many of our clients may be thinking about their body shapes, we are excited to see the outstanding benefits of this innovative treatment. Here, we provide a brief introduction to the EON Smarter Body Contouring System along with a comparison to CoolSculpting.
What is EON?
EON is a noninvasive body contouring system in which fat is targeted using thermal laser energy. This energy penetrates comfortably through the skin thanks to a built-in cooling mechanism. The simultaneous cooling of the skin allows for deeper absorption of the thermal energy into subcutaneous and adipose belly fat. The device is completely automated. There is no applicator stuck to the skin. The EON applicator doesn’t even touch the skin. It does, however, hover over it on an articulating arm that moves from one side to the other through the course of the hour-long session. Adding to its impressive features, EON also maps the unique topography of each person’s abdominal fat to provide treatment that is fully customized to their body.
How Does EON Compare to CoolSculpting
We are all about outstanding outcomes and comfort. CoolSculpting simply does not meet our standards for either. However, seeing that it is one of the most recognized names in body contouring, a comparison of EON vs. CoolSculpting is in order.
According to a clinical study, participants experienced an average of 21.6% fat loss in the abdominal area after one treatment session. Some, though not the norm, lost as much as 40%. Approximately three-quarters of the study participants lost more than 20% belly fat. CoolSculpting patients experience an average of 20.4% fat loss in a target area. The target areas for CoolSculpting are broad, whereas EON is currently used only in the abdominal area. Looking at the percentages, you might think that the difference is insignificant. However, we must also look at the size of the applicator. A CoolSculpting session for the abdomen targets a small area at a time. Each target area is about as large as a stick of butter. The EON device, with its articulating arm, delivers consistent, uniform energy to the entire abdomen in one appointment. This is where the two may differ the most.
Both CoolSculpting and EON work with the body’s natural response to nonvital cells. Each destroys fat cells so they can be picked up by the lymphatic system and flushed from the body. Both represent permanent fat loss. Where they differ is in their mechanism of action. CoolSculpting freezes fat cells, a process that can be slightly uncomfortable. EON melts fat cells with controlled thermal energy. With the inclusion of cooling technology, this treatment produces few mild side effects, if any. After nonsurgical body contouring, results tend to build over the course of about 12 weeks.
